Butchering is in the Bouchier family's blood, originally from the Western District; Peter is one of 14 butchers in the family!
Commencing his apprenticeship in 1976 in a shop on Malvern Road only a few doors from the current shop location, Peter began managing this shop in 1980 once he completed his apprenticeship; three years later Peter and his wife Sue purchased the shop from his boss and began the tradition that is Peter Bouchier – Butchers of Distinction.
In 1987 a move to Glenferrie Road was required due to the development of the shops along the Malvern Road strip but in 1990 he returned "home" by purchasing an existing delicatessen with the sole purpose of closing it down to re-open his Butcher Shop, since then the shop has become an iconic landmark destination for quality meat purchases in the exclusive Hawksburn Village shopping precinct.
In 1999 Peter expanded his operation to include the David Jones store located in the Foodhall of the Melbourne CBD; this expansion enabled Peter to expand his range and diversify his customer base which in turn allowed others to taste the Peter Bouchier difference!
In 2001 Peter and his wife Sue decided to expand the company's portfolio and took up the challenge of operating the delicatessen in the David Jones Food Hall in the city. With multiple sites and a burning desire to produce traditional style smallgoods Peter needed to expand his operation to include a meat cutting room and smallgoods facility. In 2007 this ambition was realised and the facility was opened and currently services not only Peter's stores but other exclusive delicatessens and cafes within the Melbourne metropolitan precinct.
The latest addition to the Peter Bouchier family is the retail store within Malvern Central, which opened in December 2017. This store offers all of our signature range plus a stunning dry-ageing cabinet.

Meet the Team
Director- Peter Bouchier
Based at our meat and smallgoods facility in Moorabbin and frequenting our retail stores through the week, Peter can be difficult to catch! Though his days are now more often spent with the phone in his hand than his knives, Peter always finds time for his passion of crafting beautiful meat products and smallgoods.
Director - Sue Bouchier
After spending many years behind the counter in our David Jones Deli, Sue now manages the administration side of the business. Keeping track of what is coming in and going out, she is based in the office at Moorabbin.
General Manager- Jon Tarabaras
Taking the lead in operations for the wholesale sector of our business. Jon keeps our factory running like clockwork. Crucially linked with our retail stores, Jon oversees our stores and provides guidance to store managers. Working closely with Peter to ensure the company philosophy is carried out across all areas of the business.
Production Supervisor - Felix Hoerding
Our German butcher and smallgoods maker, Felix has been a part of the Peter Bouchier team for many years. As well as taking the lead in our smallgoods production, Felix organises and oversees the day to day running of the overall wholesale production.
Toorak Store Manager - Mike
A long standing member of the Peter Bouchier Team, our Toorak store manager, Mike, is an excellent source of local knowledge and prides himself on customer satisfaction. Mike takes lead at Toorak, teaching and guiding our team members, instilling in staff and customers alike a passion for food and service that he is renowned for.
Malvern Central Store Manager - Tom Bouchier
Tom’s current role in the business is Manager of our newest retail store at Malvern Central. Offering our signature range as well as some exclusive products to the Malvern shoppers. Tom has a fresh and passionate mind on all things the industry has to offer. Tom has been a part of the Australian Butchers Team since 2014 years, representing the country at the World Butchers Competition.
David Jones Deli Manager- Carmen Mendoza
After working with Sue in the deli for a number of years, Carmen is now the deli manager. Carmen is a wealth of knowledge on smallgoods and charcuterie and will ensures all customers are satisfied. Carmen loves to help with suggestions for entertaining guests and will be happy to guide you in your choices.
Sales Manager - Virginia Ranicar
Focusing on our wholesale customers, Virginia spends her time out on the road visiting our customers, from cafes and restaurants to delis and grocers, Virginia keeps in touch and ensures everyone is up to date with our latest news and newest products.
Marketing Manager- Jacqui Bouchier
Jacqui takes the lead with the company’s marketing – from branding to events, she covers all internal and external opportunities. .
