Planning Christmas lunch can feel like a balancing act. You want to make sure there’s plenty to go around, but not so much that you’re eating leftovers for a week. To make it easier, we’ve created a simple serving size guide so you can order with confidence.
Start With Your Guest List
The number of guests is the first step, but also think about appetites and how many meats you’ll be serving. A table with multiple roasts and sides means you can allow a little less per person. If you’re keeping it simple with one hero cut, allow a bit more.
Serving Guide Highlights
Here’s a quick look at a few Christmas favourites from our Serving Size Guide:
Hams
-
Whole leg ham (around 7 kg) – serves 20+ people
-
Half leg ham (around 4.5 kg) – serves 12 to 18
-
Boneless ham leg (4 kg) – serves 13 to 16
Turkeys
-
Whole turkey (5 kg) – serves 8 to 10
-
Boned and stuffed turkey (3.5 kg) – serves 10
-
Turkey breast fillet (2 kg) – serves 6 to 8
Pork Roasts
-
Pork loin (2.5 kg) – serves 8 to 10
-
Porchetta (3 kg) – serves 10 to 12
-
Pork rack – allow one cutlet per person
These are approximate ranges — side dishes, salads, and dessert spreads all make a difference. You’ll find the full list covering every roast and festive cut in our downloadable Christmas Serving Size Guide.
A Tip for Perfect Portions
Plan for about 250 to 300 grams of meat per person for roasts with the bone in, and a little less for boneless cuts. It’s a simple rule that works across most festive menus.
